Software forgot the factory
A generation of tools got very good at drawing things and very bad at making them. The gap between an engineering intent and a machine that can execute it is where almost all the value leaks out.
I build machinery for the physical economy.
Founder of Antonym Industries. I have arranged my entire life around the gap between what an engineer draws and what a factory can actually build. It is a deeply unglamorous gap. I think about it constantly.
I am Rev Murugesan. I build industrial software, the kind that has to be right, because something physical happens at the other end of it.
Most of my working life has been spent close to manufacturing: the processes, the constraints, and the enormous amount of judgement that never makes it into a CAD file. Antonym Industries is my attempt to put that judgement into a system that can carry it.
I write because thinking in public is the fastest way to find out where you are wrong. Industrial Heresy is the long-form version of that. Ramblings is everything else.

Abstraction has a cost, and someone pays it
Every layer that hides the physical world from the engineer moves the consequence somewhere else, usually onto the person holding the part at the end.

The interesting problems are unglamorous
Tolerances, routings, material grades, capacity. Nobody writes launch posts about them. They decide whether anything gets built.
